That Kavlak Kid
By: Abby |In case anyone was curious about Veli Kavlak, who I wrote about yesterday, I’ve got some YouTube videos of the boy in question. And, well, he’s got some skills. At least enough skills to go in a montage, as well as a knack for long-range goals.
Boxing Day Bits and Bobs
By: Abby |Apologies for my less-regular posting- I started an actual job two weeks ago, which leaves me with less time to do things like research and write a blog. As much as I want to, of course. Also, it’s the winter break in the Bundesliga, which leaves me with much less to talk about than normal. [...]
Speculation Not Involving A Brazilian
By: Abby |Or even a Swiss, for that matter. Shocking, I know! Thanks to Juliet for tipping me off.
DC United first-round draft pick Bryan Arguez is off to Berlin for a two-week workout/trial (depending on what source you read). I know nothing about the player, but apparently he’s young, just shy of his 19th birthday, but [...]
How Soon is Signed?
By: Abby |Reports are coming in that the long-awaited signing of the Brazilian Raffael (de Araujo) from Lulu’s ex-club FC Zurich is all but completed. It’s the financial agreements that still need to be worked out completely, but some sources (scroll down) are reporting that a payment plan has been worked out for the striker.
So who is [...]
A Much Better Weekend
By: Abby |Note to self: remember to name the correct historical region of Germany in each match preview.
The mighty Bayern Munich came to visit, and left with only a point. A fine result, I’d say, and very encouraging going into the winter break. Bayern may be having some problems of late, enough to write a blog about, [...]
Bavaria Approaches. For Real This Time.
By: Abby |Okay, so talking about Bavaria last time didn’t much help. Clearly, the Franconians were upset that I’d called them Bavarian, and showed it by taking it out on Hertha. This time, though, the opponents are actually Bavarian. It’s in their name. Also, they go to Oktoberfest in lederhosen.
Can We Play The Favre Way?
By: Abby |That’s the question being asked in the German press. Lucien Favre was a very successful manager in his native Switzerland, promoting two clubs (one to the second league, one to the first), winning two Swiss Cups, and also taking the last two titles with FC Zürich.
Okay, Okay, They’re Franconian
By: Abby |Next time, when writing a match preview, I’ll make sure to figure out exactly which historical area of Germany a team is located in, because clearly they get annoyed when I don’t get that right. Even if it does make a neat little category for the last two games before the winter break.
Hertha’s poor away [...]
Match Report…Later
By: Abby |I’ll have a match report tomorrow, hopefully, when I’m done pretending that football doesn’t exist (it was a rough weekend on that front). I’ve also just started a job so I’m still getting into that rhythm.
Until then, here’s Arne Friedrich and some of his Germany teammates acting like dorks because a child yelled at them. [...]
Bavaria Part One
By: Abby |It’s double-Bavarian in the two games before the winter break, with a visit to Nürnberg tomorrow before a visit from Bayern Munich next week. It’s a challenging way to close out the first half of the season, although not at all hopeless.
