Break His Heart, Not Mine

By: Abby | Comments 3 Comments

First off: everyone’s got to go and read the conversation in the last post. Some great insight into the situation currently at Hertha. (I pretty much agree with Jan, for what it’s worth.)
A tough stretch awaits Hertha BSC Berlin, a stretch that would be tough even if we weren’t in the position we find ourselves [...]

Go Back To The Start

By: Abby | Comments 12 Comments

A battling 1-0 win that my Bayern-supporting friend (bitterly, after I teased him about which team had won and which team didn’t on Saturday) referred to as “boring”?
Oh yes, it’s good to be back.
Hannover, much to my pessimistic predictions, put up more of a fight than they appeared capable of in pre-season. They had the [...]

Things That Hertha Berlin Are Not

By: Abby | Comments 2 Comments

Number 1: a cup team.
At least, in all the time I’ve known them. They’ve not done particularly spectacular in any of the cups they’ve been involved with. Last year was a bit better than others, with us going out from the DFB-Pokal to a Bundesliga team in extra time (Borussia Dortmund), and being not entirely [...]

Hey You Guys! It’s A Real Match Preview!

By: Abby | Comments No Comments

Sends chills down your spine, doesn’t it?
While it’s still unnaturally summery here in Seattle, it’s time for some actually competitive games in Germany. The first round of the DFB-Pokal starts this weekend – in fact, several games have already taken place – and Hertha are up against SC Preußen Münster, of the Regionaliga West. They [...]

Meet the New Simunic, and A Few Others

By: Abby | Comments 3 Comments

So, after a bit of the standard transfer hemming and hawing, we’ve got our man. 21-year-old Nemanja Pejcinovic, billed as the ‘new Josip Simunic’ by some in the press, has joined Hertha after impressing Lulu in a week-long trial. While at one point it seemed like the deal wouldn’t go through, something was worked out [...]

Urgh.

By: Abby | Comments No Comments

Not really the best weekend, football-wise. Normally I’d be avoiding the news until the end of the week, but I have a job to do (especially after slacking when my mother was in town all last week). So I’m pushing through. There’s a game tomorrow. Really.
Anyway, to sum up the last week: two losses. The [...]

This Year, We’ll Have An Excuse

By: Abby | Comments 5 Comments

As I’ve written about before, Hertha have a particular problem with the DFB-Pokal. We lose to lower-level opposition in it on a regular basis, usually early, and tend to be fairly embarrassing. I suppose it’s because we don’t really need a trip to Berlin, do we? For all the other teams, it’s their chance to [...]

Managing To Not Be Embarrassing

By: Abby | Comments 1 Comment

To say that Hertha have a poor record in the DFB-Pokal is perhaps an understatement. They’re not known for doing well in it, often going out quite early to lower-level opposition. Last season, one might recall, it was Wuppertaler SV Borussia. Although that was in October, so there’s still time to embarrass ourselves.
Anyway! This time [...]
