We Won

By: Abby | Comments 3 Comments

We won.
We won.
The first time since August- against Brøndby, way back when. All those weeks of things getting worse and worse, of less and less confidence, of more and more crap. And while this result only matters a little (we’re still rock bottom in the league), it’s such a nice result to have.
Of course, we [...]

Going Dutch

By: Abby | Comments 7 Comments

Oh, I wish it was last season. For many reasons, of course, but also because we’d have a reasonable chance of actually getting out of the group stages if we were anywhere near decent. Sporting may be the favorites, but they’re only seventh in the Portuguese league, twelve points behind the leaders. FK Ventspils come [...]

Wir Glauben

By: Abby | Comments 9 Comments

You don’t have to read German to know that things are a bit dire in the Hertha camp.
Five games played; four lost. Seventeenth place. Most recently in Mainz, where a 1-0 lead in the 80th minute (thanks to Maxi Nicu) turned into a 2-1 loss. Confidence is low. And, really, that’s the crucial thing.
Work caused [...]

If You Survive Me

By: Abby | Comments 5 Comments

In April, last season, the come-from-behind 2-1 win against Werder Bremen caused a lot of us to believe that we were really going to do something. True, it was late in a disappointing season for the northerners, and even truer, we’d been pounded on earlier in the season for the away game, but it was [...]

Geh’n Wir Nicht

By: Abby | Comments 8 Comments

Rumors of our demise have been exaggerated.
Not, you know, that there wasn’t a reason to start them. 45 goalless minutes started the game, although the official Hertha liveticker (it’s very hard to watch a game when you’re supposed to be working) assured me that they had the better of the chances. But chances haven’t been [...]

All or Nothing

By: Abby | Comments No Comments

Valeri Domovchiyski gave Hertha a lifeline in Denmark. The young Bulgarian scored the 1 in a 2-1 loss (and missed a chance for a 2), giving us a hope that we can overturn the result at the Jahn Sportpark. A 1-0 win would see us through.
My anxiety about the team was detailed pretty well [...]

Sunday! Sunday! Sunday!

By: Abby | Comments No Comments

Brøndby was somehow what I expected- a tough game from an opponent that I knew would never be easy. I couldn’t watch the game, being at work, but it seems like that was somewhat of the case. It seems like we had chances to equalize but couldn’t finish, and Artur Wichniarek limped off after half [...]

The Danish Play

By: Abby | Comments 2 Comments

Tomorrow marks the arrival of Hertha BSC Berlin in Europe. Last season our European adventure seemed longer than it actually was, due to the long qualifying process that we had to go through with our status of Fair Play Champions (or whatever). FC Nistru Otaci, Interblock Ljubljana, and St. Patrick’s all fell on our way [...]

It Begins

By: Abby | Comments 6 Comments

It seems like only yesterday I was trying to forget the result of that Karlsruhe game. But tomorrow is August 8, which means that tomorrow is the very first game of the 2009-2010 Bundesliga season.
Our opponent is Hannover 96, who have been in a bit of a turmoil lately. They got knocked out of [...]
