On Returning
By: Abby |How do you respond to a game like last Thursday’s?
One More Chance
By: Abby |I know that I’ve said that we need to win before every other UEFA Cup game, but this time, we really, really, really need to win. There isn’t another option if we want to play more in Europe this season. Win, and we go through. Anything else, and we don’t.
That’s basically it. With the way [...]
Elfs, Gifts, and Transfers
By: Abby |Ah, well. Can’t win them all, right?
Last I posted, Hertha was riding high, unbeaten in five, with quite a lot of confidence. Now, we’ve lost two in a row. Granted, they were difficult games, and neither were lost by much, but still. I tend to prefer winning over losing.
The “Home” Game
By: Abby |After a bye last week, Hertha’s back into European competition tomorrow. The UEFA Cup beckons and tomorrow is probably the biggest game of all of ours- the visit of Turkish giants Galatasaray.
It’s a big game because, of course, there’s a massive Turkish population in Berlin (as there is in most major German cities). So [...]
Oh Hey, Football’s Happening
By: Abby |I’ve been busy being overwhelmed by awesome, to the point where I can’t quite think about football. Also, I was doing a lot of celebratory drinking/partying.
But now that it’s all over, I can focus on things that aren’t all that important in the scheme of things, but very enjoyable to care about. (I like caring [...]
German Jinxes
By: Abby |Apparently, Portuguese giants Benfica have a poor record in Germany. They’ve played 15 games on German soil and lost 11 of them. They’ve never won any of them. They’ve only scored 13 goals.
However, that also shows that they’ve been playing in Europe for long enough that they’ve had 15 opportunities to play in Germany. Their [...]
We’ll Always Have Otaci
By: Abby |The UEFA Cup sure has been fun, hasn’t it? A few clubs I’d never heard of, a bit of coverage from the Irish press where Hertha were talked about as near-giants of the European game. Good times. And now, we’re in the group stages.
I have to say, I’m not hugely confident about getting farther than [...]
We’re Adequate!
By: Abby |And not much more.
A 0-0 draw against St. Patrick’s- described, as expected, as “battling”- in rainy Dublin means that we’re through to the group stages of the UEFA Cup. The Irish side had some good chances, Voronin a couple as well, but he’s still looking for his first Hertha goal. And while it may not [...]
Urgh.
By: Abby |Not really the best weekend, football-wise. Normally I’d be avoiding the news until the end of the week, but I have a job to do (especially after slacking when my mother was in town all last week). So I’m pushing through. There’s a game tomorrow. Really.
Anyway, to sum up the last week: two losses. The [...]
Not Done Yet, But Not A Bad Place to Be
By: Abby |A 2-0 win over St. Patrick’s Athletic today meant that we’re in a good position to advance to the next UEFA Cup round, but it doesn’t mean we should be counting on it. It’s not the most difficult of deficits to overturn (nothing like the 8-1 win from the first qualifier, for example). But it’s [...]
