Busy Times
By: Abby | August 13th, 2008Is what Hertha BSC have right now.
Tomorrow, the quest to qualify for the UEFA Cup proper kicks off against FK Interblock Ljubljana. The Slovenian team has been not at their best lately, losing their last game 2-0 to end up bottom of the table. They also sacked their manager, replacing him with an Italian named Alberto Bigon. The team aren’t very good right now, but not even two weeks ago they were coyly talking about title hopes. While we’re the favorites, the result is by no means certain.
We’ll have to do it without Gojko Kacar, who stayed in China despite our wanting him to come back, playing against Argentina in the hope of a good result for his country. Unfortunately for him, it didn’t quite work out that way and despite a fantastic long-range shot from Gojko, Serbia ended up losing and ending up at the bottom of their group. So after all that fighting, suing, and grumbling, he’s on his way back to Berlin. It’s too soon for tomorrow, but there’s some hope we’ll see him for the season opener on Sunday.
Additionally, we’re missing Arne Friedrich, Pal Dardai, and likely Sofian Chahed, who had an operation on a broken finger but is hoping to be back for the game. We’ll see.
So it’s a busy time. There’s a big game tomorrow, there’s the opener on Sunday, and we are back in the swing of things. It seems like only yesterday we were losing to Bayern….

Admittedly, it wasn’t the most exciting match, but I am happy that we won there and have now best chances to qualify for UEFA Cup. Nice goals by Pante, and it was a pity that Chermiti was offside. That would have been a perfect debut – scoring right in his first match for us. But, I guess you can’t have it all.
Sunday is SO CLOSE now … ahhhhhhh!!! *excited*Posted from
