Revenge?
By: Abby | October 25th, 2008Tomorrow we take our inexplicably excellent away form off to Dortmund to take on Borussia Dortmund and their bumblebee outfits, which I have always liked for some reason. I think I just enjoy yellow kits. We’ve already been to Dortmund once this season, for our annual collapse in the early rounds of the DFB-Pokal, where we lost in extra time. So this game has a slight hint of revenge.
The big story is that Marko Pantelic has been returned to the starting eleven after his equalizer against Benfica. The power struggle between him and Lulu is far from over, and I wouldn’t be surprised if he goes in January, but he’s still what we have now. Especially since Andriy Voronin sustained a foot injury midweek and isn’t making the trip. Also doubtful are Arne Friedrich (back), Pal Dardai (thigh), Marc Stein (stomach muscle strain), and Josip Simunic (thigh). So, er, everyone, then. Although Gojko Kacar is considered to have completely recovered from his injury and looks to start, which is a good thing.
Dortmund, of course, are one of the big names in German football who have been erratic in the past few seasons. Currently, we’re a point ahead of them, but they’re looking to move up the table and re-establish themselves as Bundesliga greats. They’ve had a run of two draws of late, first to Hanover and then a somewhat crazy 3-3 with Werder Bremen. While our away form has been good, this is more likely to be the kind of game we could struggle with- a team at about our level, at home, who want to get back to their place of glory. However, it’s hard to predict an outcome, in all honesty. It could go anywhere.
But hey, if Pante wants to stoke his feud against Lulu with a few more away goals, I’m not going to mind…

No revenge, but at least a point. I think Hertha are getting the most out of their injury crisis at the moment. No pretty games, but a lot of points thanks to a good defense. Once the likes of Ebert, Piszczek, Chermiti and Lucio are back, Hertha could be in a good position to solidify their UEFA Cup ambitions.
