A Young Striker Had A Dream Bundesliga Debut Saturday
By: Abby | February 5th, 2008
Unfortunately, it was Martin Fenin of Eintract Frankfurt. The 20-year-old Czech got a hat-trick at the Olympiastadion in a 3-0 victory over the capitol city side, wowing onlookers and winning new fans.
So not exactly the start we were looking for.
I didn’t watch, so I only have match reports to go on, and I’ve only been half-heartedly reading them. I do tend to have trouble reading about bad defeats, preferring to distract myself and occasionally ignore football altogether (yesterday, for example, instead of writing this post, I had some beers with friends and watched a DVD of last year’s Eurovision). By all accounts Hertha were fairly dreadful, particularly in defense, where they were still without captain Arne Friedrich and also without Steve von Bergen. Young Berliner Pascal Bieler made his debut in left-back.
Also debuting was Bryan Arguez, who appeared in the 63rd minute for Kacar (already 2 down at that time), but was unable to do anything about it. I guess it’s good that he’s playing?
Also, attendance was poor- only 35,000. The Olympiastadion holds about 75,000. It was snowing, to be fair.
I don’t know what else to say.
In other news, alleged Bolton Wanderers target Marko Pantelic (Bolton? Seriously?) is staying in Berlin rather than playing with Serbia tomorrow. He’s decided to stay and train with the team as the new Serbian manager wants to try newer players against Macedonia, so he’d have only played 45 minutes anyway.
Gojko Kacar, however, will be with Serbia against Macedonia. Josip Simunic will be with Croatia against the Netherlands, Valeri Domovchiyski will join Bulgaria to take on Northern Ireland, and Fabien Lustenburger and Patrick Ebert will be with the Swiss and German U-21s respectively. Arne Friedrich would have gone with the German team to play Austria, except he’s injured, and Steve von Bergen would have gone to Wembley with Switzerland, but ditto.
And at least there’s always Nutella to cheer me up.

Lulu’s still getting the team together. It’ll happen! While Friedrich is injured — Arguez for captain!
Also, you’ve heard of bittorrent, no? It could help with that *ahem* other problem you’re having…

I’m not sure I want to dig up a torrent for this one.
I just hope Lulu is given enough time to make it work.
