Ah, Seattle

By: Abby | March 17th, 2008

I’m back home from Anaheim, having had my fill of sun (I am a very pale person- I managed to get a sunburn sitting on a patio having lunch), and now I’m back home with the rain. And back to Hertha.

Getting things done enoughSo what have they been up to while I’ve been out of town? Well, they went up to Rostock for their 900th Bundesliga game. The result was their 228th draw in the Bundesliga, at 0-0. Pante was ruled out with a leg injury, so the team started with young Nigerian Solomon Okoronkwo up front. It was a fairly even game, with chances at both end, Rostock’s Stefan Wächter and our Jaroslav Drobny both being called upon to make good saves. Okoronkwo hit the post, they had a goal called offside, Andre Lima played decently after replacing Okoronkwo at the half, but in the end we had to settle for a point.

Which isn’t bad. We’re unbeaten in six now and looking comfortably mid-table- 11th, to be exact, on 32 points. The defense is clicking well and has only allowed two goals in that time, which is really what’s making things work well. Lulu Favre may be an attack-minded manager, but attack has to be built on defense and he’s clearly done something to shore that up.

The press is making most of the issue about the missing Marko Pantelic, who missed two days of training in midweek with a hardened thigh muscle. He came back, and then the next day a cyst burst in his knee. The medical staff gave him a green light three hours before kickoff, but Lulu consulted with his staff and decided not to play him. Which, combined with reports that they were feuding already, made for the story of the weekend. (Probably not helped by Lulu getting cranky the more he was asked about the striker.)

Tomorrow, Lulu will be off to Frankfurt to meet with the DFB over his appeal on the red card he got at Dortmund. Will this mean we’ll be without our manager for the upcoming visit of Schalke 04? Tomorrow will tell.Alles gute, Patrick!

However, today is the 21st birthday of Patrick Ebert. The Potsdam-born midfielder has been one of the breakout stars of Hertha this season. Here’s hoping for many more from him!

As they say, the best offense is a good defense! Big test against Schalke next week…

Especially if we don’t have a Lulu on the bench.

I had almost forgotten about Lulu heading to Frankfurt. Let’s see how things will turn out then.

Good grief, Abby. But, I am a pale person too and you are not alone. :) I used to have friends calling me that they thought they had just seen a ghost! Since then, I had used that comment as a reminder that I need to head outdoors more often (which can be a little tough…given I am more of a homebody). ;)
