Fact is, only Hertha’s amateur side has reached a final of the DFB Pokal since moving to the Olympiastadion (lost to Bayer Leverkusen in 1993). Hertha’s cup pedigree so far can only offer two cup final appearances. One in 1977 where they lost against FC Cologne, and the other one in 1979, where they lost against Fortuna Düsseldorf. Lovely welcome, thanks Jan. It’s cup competitions in general- something about the ‘magic of the cup’ or some nonsense, but I’m just feeling personally offended.

And yeah, Wayne, history is not on our side. It just seemed like it might have been luckier this year.

I’m not surprised.

Hertha have always been shit at this cup, and this is yet another blow. To be honest, we should not have even been in this cup in the second round, Unterhaching should have had us, if they could finish.

Welcome to the DFB-Pokal. It’s not the most uncommon thing to happen in this competition. Still sad to see Berlin crashing out of the competition early again.

Ouch. Yeah, everyone likes to see some top-tier scalps in the domestic cups, but it sucks to have it happen to your team. Cup campaigns are a mixed bag anyway – now you can concentrate on the league. That’s always what I tell myself when my club goes out of one, anyway (as it likely will tomorrow).
