Hertha Win the Swiss Battle
By: Abby | October 29th, 2007Jan may have been complaining about the lack of goals in the Bundesliga this weekend, but someone forgot to tell Hertha that no one was scoring. Granted, two isn’t a huge amount, but I think fans of most teams would take a solid two-nil victory. Which is more than Bayern could say when it came to Bochum…
I didn’t get a chance to watch due to GolTV scheduling (although really, it had to be at least as interesting as Athletic Bilbao v. Real Betis), but by all accounts it was a fairly one-sided game in favor of Hertha. The first goal came on the 26th minute, an awfully unlucky own-goal from Bochum defender Marcel Maltritz who turned a Gilberto volley into his own net under no pressure. The second was four minutes later and an absolute beauty, a blast from Marko Pantelic after controlling off his chest. While Hertha had other chances, those ended up being enough to stop the five-game non-winning streak and keep the points in the capital.
Hertha is now up to eighth place, from tenth, and things are generally looking good. Manager Lucien Favre declared it an absolutely deserved victory, although he did think that more goals should have been scored and that Hertha lacked the ‘decisive killer pass.’ It’s always good to have something to work for. But it’s a nice way to go into the visit to high-flying Hamburg next week, and the DFB-Pokal game against Wuppertaler SV tomorrow. And it’s always good to not lose games that you’re supposed to win…
Goals after the jump.
Marko’s shirt is delivering birthday greetings to his daughter Ingrid. A nice birthday present, I’d say.

Good result for Hertha. I guess few would have tipped this club to be ranked 8th after one third of the season.
Now, enjoy this victory as long as it lasts, as I hope that Hamburg will beat Berlin at home this weekend, so that they can continue chasing Bayern.

There’s no hope for the rest of the league Jan, we might as well not even try.
As for the Hamburg game, hopefully Pante and Gil will be fit for the match. Favre was pretty bad tactically today at Wuppertal, putting Pisczcek in LW when Ebert, who is a left footed player, could have easily played there, then switch Grahn, who is adept at RW, to play there so that Pisczcek can play his normal role, FW, along with Okoronkwo. I don’t know what Favre did today.
