Officially the Worst
By: Abby | December 7th, 2009On Sunday, Grenoble Foot 38, minnows of Ligue 1, won 1-0 at home against Toulouse. It was their first win of the season and brought them to 6 points.
Hertha are still on 5.
Hertha are now officially the worst top-flight team in a major league in Europe.
Joy.
We ended up that way after a dull, grumpy sort of 2-0 loss. It took us until the 58th minute to concede, which is pretty good for us, and it held at 1-0 until almost the end, when a penalty was conceded. It was not the best sort of argument for the sport or for the Bundesliga. We were not all that good and Schalke were not that much better. At 1-0 Ramos spurned a glorious chance, the only good one I’d seen, that would have possibly given us a draw. But, it’s our luck this season.
So, nothing got better this week. Hertha is still on course to be laughing-stocks for years to come.
The most curious thing to me was that Gojko Kacar spent the entire game on the bench. Despite that we were lacking a lot of inspiration, that we went down 1-0 around the hour mark and that it was like that until the dying minutes, no sign of the young Serbian. He’s arguably the most talented player at Hertha but he seems to be on Friedhelm Funkel’s bad side. The player himself wonders why he’s not playing. My first thoughts, honestly, are that we know all is lost and we don’t want him getting injured before January. Fiorentina are the newest team to be linked to him. I hate to say it, but I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s not a Hertha player after the new year.
At this point, I’m not sure I’d blame him.

Oh geez. Reminds me of poor Derby County’s year in the Premiership in 07-08, when they had [just checked the #s] 11 pts from 38 games. Hey, Hertha’s already halfway there…! So, um… :-/

There’s only one place a team who concedes in every match and struggles for goals is going to end up.
It’s difficult too see whats improved under the new management team at this point in time

To be fair, people were asking ‘what happened’ last year, when we, for once, weren’t a laughing stock too.
Funkel’s overly cautious approach is killing me though.
