Two Friendlies, Two Goals
By: Abby | January 15th, 2009Over the summer, we spent a long time wrangling the signing of Tunisian starlet Amine Chermiti. Rami over at Tunisia World Cup Blog got me excited about the kid, and as the season began I was excited to see how he would fare in the Bundesliga.
But then, before September had even started, he got injured in a UEFA Cup qualifier against Interblock Ljubljana. It was a bad knee injury that kept him away for much of the season. We finally started to see him again in the last trickle of games before the winter break, with a substitute appearance in the 1-0 loss to Schalke, as he got himself back to match readiness.
It looks as if he’s getting there. His goal against Floria Swinemünde was followed up by a goal in our most recent friendly, scoring the equalizer against SC Freiburg.
True, it isn’t yet scoring the winner against Bayern Munich, but it’s a good sign, and it’s great to see a comeback of this nature from him. Let’s hope that he carries this form over into the actual season, as well.

That’s our boy right there ! Favre should team him up with Pantelic as soon as the Bundesliga starts again, and he might very well help Hertha stay serious and aim for the Schale. We miss him a lot at Étoile !

Well, I think it’s safe to assume that Chermiti has something to prove and thus gives close to a 100%, while for other players it’s just another winter break training camp. So that probably automatically gives him a good chance to shine, which wouldn’t necessary be the case once he plays in a competitive match.
But overall I’m optimistic about Chermiti as well. I think Chermiti and Domovchiyski fit perfectly into Favre’s system, so it would be great if both do well in the second half of the season. They could prove themselves as proper replacements for Pantelic and Voronin, which would also save some money.
