Comings and Goings

By: Abby | March 10th, 2008

While I’ve been working and forgetting to blog (which I do apologize for), things have been happening. Players are staying, players are wanting to go, players are discussing their futures, players are being watched…a flurry of activity, or something.

Malik- thanks Hertha Freundin!Official things first. Berlin-born defender Malik Fathi has extended his contract until 2009, in a deal that will double his wages. He’s a promising player who’s already played a couple of times for Germany and seeing an extension is a nice thing. The salary increase is a result of Gilberto leaving, perhaps? It’s nice to see that wealth distributed, although I would really like to see it go towards a pay raise for Marko Pantelic as well.

Chinedu Ede, or so I have readBut another Berlin-born player, Chinedu Ede, wants to leave the club. He says he wants more games, and considering I didn’t remember he existed until the story came into my inbox, I can perhaps see his point.

The most worrying rumor is that Roma wants to sign our Kapitän Arne Friedrich. I know that would mean Champions League football for him and all, but Roma? Hands off. We need him more.

No news yet on Lulu’s red card, but he’s submitted a letter to the DFB to see what his punishment will be. Apparently he apologized afterwards, which might lessen his punishment.

And remember Ljubomir Fejsa, who was almost signed for us in January? Arsenal are apparently interested. So at least we’re looking in the right place? Or something.

    Yes, nice site layout.:-)

Seems the Friedrich story is off the table for now after Hoeneß and Friedrich’s agent denied everything. But I guess it is really going to be one of the problems Favre will face in his quest to build a title/Champions League place contender. Those players who turn out good or great will generate interest from the big or/and the rich boys. I think keeping Pantelic will be difficult. I think there were rumours surrounding Simunic as well in the winter. And once people start noticing Raffael he might be in demand…

    Hee.

I really hope we didn’t screw up keeping Pante by not opening up contract negotiations when he wanted. I do think we can keep him (at least through next season and probably longer) if we raise his salary to the same point as Friedrich and Simunic, which seemed to be a point made often. Then again, he does move around a bit. He’s already been at Hertha longer than any of his other clubs.

It is worrying. We could end up suffering for Favre doing a proper job of things. Look at who’s already leaving Karlsruhe with the season not even done yet.
