Only Andriy Voronin Can Keep Andriy Voronin In Berlin

By: Abby | March 30th, 2009

In a manner of speaking, anyway.

Reports are coming in that we’ve got an agreement to purchase sexy-chested Ukrainian striker from parent club Liverpool. The only problem? It hinges on our qualification for the Champions League- the only way we can make enough money to afford him.

So basically, if Voronin keeps scoring the goals that get us up to a top 3 position, we can keep him. If his scoring rate drops, we probably can’t. It’s how we knew it would always end. He loves Berlin and Berlin loves him, but Berlin aren’t a rich club. But we could have a little more cash if things work out.

I don’t like the idea of relying on Champions League money for anything. There are still enough games to screw up. But at least we’re not making a deal we won’t be able to afford, and at least we’ve made it contingent on getting to that sacred place. Teams have fallen for thinking that they don’t have to be responsible; Hertha’s gone that way in the past. We seem to be just slightly better about it now. I just hope that the pressure doesn’t get to us now that everything is so close.

Other than that, there’s not much to say. International break marches on. Maxi Nicu ended up joining the Romania squad for their loss to Marko Pantelic’s Serbia, but it doesn’t look like he played, which seems surprising considering the fuss that was made over him. We’ll see how it all goes on Wednesday, and let’s hope no one comes back injured…

Hi Abby, I found “the offside” and your blog today. Well, didn´t knew that there are Hertha supporters in the States. To the point, you´re doing a great job, go on. I´m so impressed of your comments and analysis´. I will be a visitor of this blog in the future.
OK, to the match against Dortmund. Spring has come to Berlin at last, stadium´s almost sold out yet and I will be there, like ever in the last 20 years, to support my local team. There´s a huge discussion of saturday´s squad. Is Arne Friedrich back after injury, is Patrick Ebert allowed to play? Do we change the successful “system” ( 3 defenders instead of 4)? many questions one answer, when we fight with the same passion like we did before the Stuttgart game, we´ll win.
That´s all for the moment, greetings from sunny Berlin.

News are just coming in that Arne Friedrich will probably miss the rest of the season due to injury. That’s extremely bad news. Time for Steve von Bergen or Kaka to forget what an indifferent season they’ve played so far and step up.

Arne seems to have picked up the injury in the Dortmund game. I hope it didn’t happen because Hertha rushed him back to fitness. Hertha’s defense wasn’t focused in this game anyway, so they probably wouldn’t have performed any worse with Kaka or vB.
