Where Did the Week Go?
By: Abby | February 25th, 2008Somehow, last week disappeared. I’m not sure how. But suddenly I looked up and I was watching the Oscars while drinking pink champagne (no, really). And the week had gone by and I hadn’t written about any of the things I wanted to write about.
Including a preview of the Wolfsburg game. I would have said that Wolfsburg are a team in strong form- they beat Schalke away last week and had won every game since the break (against Bielefeld and Duisburg, but wins are wins). They’re ambitious, hiring Felix Magath after Bayern Munich let him go, and backed with Volkswagen’s money. While they do have a reputation in Germany of being a “plastic” club, that doesn’t stop them from winning.
They also feature former Hertha hero Marcelinho. He was quite beloved during his time at Hertha and only left in 2006, and so often that comes back to bite a team. And, as also seems to often happen with ex-Herthaners, he was been talking some crap beforehand.
So, two teams in good form but sometimes erratic meet. And what actually happened? A 0-0 draw. With means a nice away point for Hertha. And we played pretty well, requiring several late saves for the home side to defend their unbeaten record of the year. Our defense was well-organized and generally I’m pleased with this result. While three points is always best, one is better than none, especially away from the Olympiastadion. Patrick Ebert said we should have won, but everyone else seemed happy to take the point.
Captain Arne says that the team is working better together. And being more aggressive. Also, Solomon Okoronkwo knocked out his contact lens. (Does this mean he wears glasses sometimes? Are there pictures?)
In other news, Marc Stein has officially signed for next season from Wolfsburg, and Lukasz Piszczek has extended his contract. Tobias Grahn, on the other hand, wants to leave (thanks for the shirtless pic, goal.com!). And perhaps Mineiro does too.
Phew.
Anyway, hopefully this week will be less hectic so I won’t have to do everything in digest form.
