While There’s Life, There’s Hope
By: Abby | July 18th, 2008So said Cicero. Well, the one famous for speaking, anyway, who was a character in one of my favorite TV shows. I thought it appropriate, since we just signed a totally different Cicero.
Cicero Santos is our guy. He’s a Brazilian (bringing our current total of Brazilians to 5) who was most recently at Fluminese, losing finalists of this year’s Copa Libertadores. The deal is for a two-year loan, and it seems to have been a good deal for us. He’ll be wearing the number 7 shirt vacated by countryman Mineiro.
It looks as if we got him specifically as a defensive midfielder, but he’s got Lulu’s favorite trait as a player- he’s certainly ‘polyvalent’. When Lulu went to Brazil for scouting, he found Cicero up front, playing as a striker. He can also be more of an attacking midfielder, left winger, and leftback. He can do quite a lot, it seems, which makes him well suited for the sort of team that Lulu wants to have. And most reports I’ve read of him have been very positive. Considering someone’s seen fit to make a ten-minute video about a player who isn’t even technically an attacker, signs are pointing to good things.
Plus, he’s excited to assimilate in Berlin. One main objective: meeting women. Good luck, Cicero…

“I want success and a woman!” Nice. I presume he’ll be accepting applications via Hertha Freundin immediately…

For some reason Juliet, I am laughing over what he said in the latter (what you quote, I mean). This is going to be, well, interesting.
By the way, he is going to make his debut…against Liverpool in the pre-season friendly. Here – http://www.bundesliga.de/en/liga/news/2008/index.php?f=0000101871.php&fla=1

“If you aspire to the highest place, it is no disgrace to stop at the second, or even the third, place.” – Cicero
Another nice one. I dedicate it to Michael Ballack.
